A question about Cards Alvin Maker series and gender changing babies

I recently read Card's Alvin Maker series and was confused by the sudden gender change of Alvin and Margaret's first child. That is, at the end of 4th book, Alvin and Margaret get married and conceive a child. They know this (due to their knacks) and even discuss what to name her (Alvin wants to name her Little Peggy).... more »
