Lords of Swords 2?
Occasionally I like an easy to digest throwback to the S&S reading of my youth. One such was Lord of Swords edited by Daniel Blackston in 2005. I was given to understand there was a seocnd such volume at least in the works but I can't find out anything about it. Does anyone have any info? Thanks very much.... more »

Don't talk to Aliens Or God!
God did not create the universe, says Hawking but his book is called "Grand Design".. Who is the Grand Designer? I want to talk to him...he's probably an Alien too! Who is crazier, Fidel Castro or Stephen Hawking? Flip a coin.. The Starmaker Hawking was probably rooting for Matt and Brendon in Big Brother and is disapointed... more »

Lost Souls by Dean Koontz
Every horror novel is another genre. They are all crime novels, or fantasy, or science fiction, or something murkily between fantasy and science fiction. Usually the difference between them and other examples of crime and sf, is that while equally terrible things may occur in both, in horror the focus is much more on the victims and the... more »

John Carter of Barsoom Books
As these were available on Project Gutenburg, I thought I'd give them a try - nothing lost except a bit of time after all. I wasn't actually expecting all that much, after all, they are relatively ancient and the science bit of the science fantasy tag would have been pretty primitive even if it had been bang up to date... more »

YASID: Trying to find a children's story [blue rock]
In article <06f6cda5-7529-4632-8758-125e7 f7e2...@y11g2000yqm.googlegrou ps.com>, ...Nope, but it sounds like a fantasy, so I'll forward it into RASFW which has a pretty good track record.. Ted

Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick
One thing that bugs me about the Arcane Society novels is the author's premise that anyone is good at anything, really good, has a psychic power that makes them good at it. Just once I'd like to see a character in one of these books be good at something because they worked really hard at getting that good despite having no particular... more »

OT: DC Meet & Greets
Are now on hold - unless you can do something on Tuesday morning or early afternoon (and can set that up two weeks in advance). Football season starts this week, with the pros kicking in next week. Due to the timing of my flights into DC, I will be, every two weeks, missing two of the four pro games I normally watch on normal fall/winter... more »

Harmony by C.F. Bentley
It has two protagonists, one being a young woman who can communicate with some kind of planetary consciousness...ah who am I kidding...she talks to the local god. She can convince it to stop causing earthquakes, or cause a storm, and she acts as a conduit for its predictions of the future. However she has a less cool secret. In a... more »
